Below is a City of Appleton Comprehensive Plan Update from the City of Appleton.
Over the past several weeks, there have been numerous opportunities for community members to provide input regarding the update to the City of Appleton’s Comprehensive Plan.
Out of these conversations and online feedback several themes have emerged:
• Opportunity to connect and expand the bike/walking paths throughout the city.
• A desire for a more walkable community, including concern over safety.
• The revitalization of commercial corridors such as Wisconsin Avenue.
• Downtown mixed-used facilities.
• Providing more housing options and maintaining housing affordability.
As the planning process moves forward many of these hopes and concerns for the future of Appleton will be reflected in updated goals, objectives and policies to help guide the City of Appleton forward.
There are still opportunities to help shape the comprehensive plan. Looking ahead, the city is actively encouraging additional participation in the planning process and would like to hear from you. Below are several opportunities for you to stay involved. Please consider participating and inviting your neighbors to as well.
• Under the leadership of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee a survey is being developed to gain further insight regarding the public’s ideas concerning the future of the City of Appleton. The survey will be launched end of April and be active for one month. “Like” the city’s Facebook page to receive notification of the survey.
• We've also created "Meeting in a Box." This self-facilitated exercise is designed for small or large groups of people to get together and share their hopes and concerns for the future of Appleton. You can download the tool and start using it right away with your friends, neighbors or other group you belong to.
• Visit the project website and click on "Get Involved" where you can leave additional comments on a map of the city. The mapping tool allows you to click on a specific location in the city and tell us what you think.
• From May 16 to May 18 the city and its consultant team will host a 3-day design workshop. The public is invited to participate in several activities over the course of the three days, including a walking tour of downtown and bicycle ride.
