Join us as we kick off a series of wonderful events celebrating and learning about Hmong culture, identity, and experience. The opening reception includes an exhibition of artwork by Victoria and Kue and Tshab Her and artist talk January 11 at 6pm at the Wriston Art Galleries with guest curator Kate Mothes. This is followed by a panel discussion on Hmong identity Saturday, January 12th at the Appleton Public Library.
Throughout January and February, the library will host a book club discussion of Kao Kalia Yang’s The Song Poet, a screening of the documentary Being Hmong Means Being Free, and a creative tween workshop with Tshab Her. Lawrence will host three lunchtime tours of the exhibition. Closing reception will be at The Draw featuring a Storycatchers Live! event and Hmong food, music, and dancing.
These events are free and open to the public; funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council—with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Wisconsin—and a grant from the Bright Idea Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.
